Spirit-Led in Everything

Devotional Contributor: Sandra Prabakher

“For the sense and reason of the flesh is death, but the mind-set controlled by the Spirit finds life and peace.

In fact, the mind-set focused on the flesh fights God’s plan and refuses to submit to His direction, because it cannot! For no matter how hard they try, God finds no pleasure with those who are controlled by the flesh. But when the Spirit of Christ empowers your life, you are not dominated by the flesh but by the Spirit. And if you are not joined to the Spirit of the Anointed One, you are not of Him.” (Romans 8:6-9 TPT)

When we receive Christ, we have accepted Jesus as ‘Lord and Savior’, but while we live our lives knowing that Jesus is our ‘Savior’, we sometimes fall short in allowing Him to be ‘Lord’ over our lives. Jesus being Lord and Savior are two separate aspects - if Jesus is truly Savior in our lives, we are confident in our salvation, and, if Jesus is truly Lord in our lives then He becomes our leader whom we seek and follow in everything.

After being born again and Holy Spirit-filled, it is equally important to be continually “led” by the Holy Spirit in everything. In any decision we are facing, we need to prioritize what God has to say in the matter, more than prioritizing other people’s opinions. We need to always seek God for His direction & instructions, wait for His response, and carry out His guidance in our lives..

It’s not enough to be born again and “Spirit-filled’ alone, but we must be “Spirit-Led” in our daily lives as followers of Christ.

So, how do we achieve that continuous “Spirit-led” lifestyle? That comes from having continual intimacy with the Holy Spirit. If there is a lack in our intimacy with Him, then we fail to seek Him, hear Him and as a result miss being led by Him and sadly make decisions solely controlled by our flesh.

I want to share with you something that I heard from the Lord on this subject a few months ago – just like having a pair of healthy legs doesn’t make “walking” automatic, it still takes effort to get up and move those legs to walk. Similarly, having the Spirit of God in you is only the first step, but it takes intentionality to walk in the Spirit at all times and live a victorious Christian life.

“But I say, walk and live [habitually] in the [Holy] Spirit [responsive to and controlled and guided by the Spirit]; then you will certainly not gratify the cravings and desires of the flesh (of human nature without God).” (Galatians 5:16 AMPC)

Please pray along with me –

‘Father, please help each of us be alert, mindful and intentional about constantly walking in the Spirit and not out of the impulses of our human nature. Help us to be more and more like Jesus. Amen.’
